Cervical cancer: #SMEARIT #GETSCREENED

January is CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH
What do we have to know about cervical cancer?
Human Papillomavirus( HPV) predisposes women to cervical cancer. Each year, about 500,000 women worldwide are diagnosed with cervical cancer and more than 270 000 die from it. Researches have shown that increasing number of sexual partners increases the chance of being infected by HPV which predisposes women to Cervical cancer. I would like to explain this discovery in simple terms. When a man that has been with about 5women before has sexual contact with a woman,he inadvertently passes on the virus to the new woman, now if she moves on to be with another man who has been a 4women before too...the cycle continues, the woman now has a bit of the viruses from those other 10 women. A lot of us must have heard something close to this from our pastors about sharing spirits ,well it turns out that medically it has been proven that the theory is somewhat true but in a different form.
However other risk factors for cervical cancer are; smoking, use of oral contraceptives, other sexually transmitted diseases like chlamydia and herpes.
Furthermore, females from ages 21 most especially those who are sexually active are adviced to go for PAP SMEAR and get the HPV vaccine.  Pap smear helps to reduce the risk  and it also help detect abnormal cell growth early.

We #smearit to support CERVICAL CANCER  prevention.

  1. This is really impressive but if I may ask Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection caused by HSV (herpes simplex virus). This virus affects the genitals, the cervix, and skin in other parts of the body. How is it a risk factor for cervical cancel

    1. HSV-2 is one of the factors that work in hand with HPV in boosting cervical cancer risk. Histories of most patient shows that most women with Genital herpes have high risk. How it happens is not known i think.
